Fossil Giant Mako Shark
Fossil Giant Mako Shark ~ This fossil of a giant Mako shark was actually found on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the Upper Lunada Bay area during a construction project.  It was found in the Altamira Shale Member of the Monterey Formation (commonly called Palos Verdes Stone). Joe Cocke cleaned, prepared and assembled the fossil which process took five months to complete.   Many thanks to the Jim Madden family of Rancho Palos Verdes who loaned this fossil to PVIC.
